Ready, set, GO!
“You have 60 minutes to submit your bid. The winning team will be determined based on accuracy, attention to change orders, and goals set within the project.”
These words and an air siren loudly signaled the start of a recent in-house ‘Estimating Workshop’ for STACK Construction Technologies employees, run by two of our product team members Ryan Bender and David Fouche. Members of the sales and customer success teams were paired up to work through the STACK Estimate Worksheet with the end goal of producing and submitting a winning bid. Employees participated to learn more about the estimating process and apply that knowledge to their roles within STACK.

This workshop wasn’t your typical learning session, and it wasn’t for the faint of heart.
Teams of two were presented with a project and a strict one-hour deadline.
There were hidden errors in the project.
There were labor decisions to be made and costs to be determined.
And just when a team thought they were ready to submit the winning bid, the change orders started coming in. Then more change orders. Oh, and a few surprise variables came up when the labor needs were switched to a union team needing an assigned supervisor.
Not exactly a real-life scenario, but enough to meet the goal of giving this STACK group a hands-on experience with the plethora of information, intense thought processes, and stressors that contractors face daily. Everyone left the workshop with a better understanding of a contractor’s needs and a renewed excitement for sharing the value and time-saving power of STACK software.
“I found the estimating workshop to be an extremely useful exercise that gave us all a better understanding of what our end users are battling daily,” said Mitch Godar, Senior Account Executive who was on the winning team. “Being agile and efficient with your time is crucial when you are pushing to hit a deadline. I always aim to take a consultative approach to my sales conversations, and this type of workshop gave me a new layer of confidence when talking to estimators and helping them overcome obstacles.”
