Life Outside of STACK: Greg Warman, Strategic Solutions Engineer

Life Outside of STACK: Greg Warman

Life Outside of STACK is our feature series that introduces you to some of the faces behind the brand. Today we are featuring Greg Warman, Strategic Solutions Engineer.

Tell us your position, how long you’ve been at STACK, and briefly describe a typical day at work for you.

I started at STACK in February 2021 after spending 4 ½ years in Engineering recruitment & staffing (no construction background, minus a few summer jobs in high school!). In my two+ years at STACK, I’ve had an opportunity to progress my career and learn more about the construction and tech industries. My roles have evolved from a sales-focused Business Development Representative to an Account Executive, and for the last eight months I’ve found myself in a Strategic Solutions Engineer role. A typical day consists of supporting our Sales & Customer Success teams with prospects & clients - helping to understand where and how STACK can bring the most value. I also have the privilege of working closely with our Product, Engineering, and Dev teams to ensure our STACK solution continues to evolve with industry needs and expectations.

What is your team like at STACK?

Our STACK team is AMAZING! While we have segmented divisions for Sales, Support, and Product, we all work together in tandem with shared goals and a common vision – to support our clients with our world-class solution... and we have FUN while doing it.

What do you love about your job that would surprise most people?

I thoroughly enjoy learning about other software and tech in the industry, and specifically the current solutions our customers use. Ultimately, positioning how STACK fits in to bring the most value. Even though STACK is considered a preconstruction and construction solution, we’re constantly leveraging the cloud and our open API to streamline, connect, and automate our client’s day-to-day processes. Recent advancements with AI (shout out ChatGPT) and 3D modeling (BIM) are causing the construction industry to evolve faster than ever, which makes what we do even more fun.

What is the best piece of career advice you ever received?

There are three things you are ALWAYS in control of every day. Your attitude, preparation, and effort. Good things happen when you’re consistent with these three areas professionally and personally.

Greg's guinea pig.

Do you have any funny or embarrassing stories related to work (and safe for work)?

I’m known as “Guinea Pig Greg” by my peers. Once my coworkers were introduced to my seven guinea pigs, six cats, and dog. I’ve embraced this name and wear it on my sleeve as the keeper of my own mini-zoo at home.

What’s your process for turning a bad day into a good one?

Taking time to self-reflect and strategize with my team. I’m a firm believer in “No Bad Days” - rather, a “bad day” is a learning opportunity to be better and improve for tomorrow. “What went well today and what could have been better?”

We know you’re great – hey, that’s why you work at STACK! Tell us about the great things (in detail) you do outside of work. Hobbies, interests, secret lives…

I am an avid video gamer. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been playing video games and currently play on my Xbox Series X. I’ve recently acquired a MetaQuest VR headset that supplements my Xbox gaming. Videos games have given me a love and appreciation for new technologies and the digital space.

Greg Warman and friend dancing

What song have you completely memorized? Will you sing it for us? What about playing it on an instrument? How about a little dance instead?

Too many songs to count. Fun Fact – I was in Acapella in high school. I LOVE SINGING. There are too many great songs that I’d enjoy belting at the top of my longs. My favorite song to sing on road trips is Zach Brown Band’s “Colder Weather.” I can always go back to my high school acapella album for some nostalgic throwback music, too.

What’s your favorite local spot and why (restaurant, bar, music venue, whatever you want to share about your hood!)?

My favorite local food spot is probably a bar and grill called Shooters Sports Grill. They have some of the best dry-rub chicken wings I’ve ever had, and I spent about four years living a few minutes down the road (spent a LOT of time there). When I’m not enjoying great food, I love going down the Riverbend Music Center for live concerts of all types of music.

What makes you truly happy?

Seeing everyone around me, who I truly care about, being happy. My parents raised me as selflessly as parents can. I believe my people-first personality was molded by this. I’m truly happy if I’m able to bring happiness to those around me. (Also, singing and video games 😊.)

If your life was a movie, what songs would be on the soundtrack?

Boston – Peace of Mind. Absolute gem of a song, and a reminder to not take anything too seriously. Peace of mind is key.

Soundtrack 2 My Life – KiD CuDi. For obvious reasons, it’s literally titled as such (and I love CuDi).

Smalltown USA – Justin Moore. I grew up in a small, rural high school east of Cincinnati. We celebrated FFA and 4H weeks with “Bring Your Tractor to School Day” and “Hay Bale Toss” competitions. This song reminds me of home and the town I grew up in.

Greg with friends at a wedding.

What is the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?

A few years ago, I had a few friends approach me and ask that I officiate their weddings. I’ve always loved public speaking and making myself the center of attention, but the thought of officiating a wedding riddled me with anxiety. However, I set aside my nerves and became a licensed ordained minister for my friends. I’ve now officiated five weddings with another two weddings booked in the future. I never thought I’d be able to get past the nerves but decided to face my fears and do it anyway. I’m so glad I did. Each wedding has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

If you could choose your own nickname, what would it be?

Nicknames are great when they’re earned! I’d give myself the same nickname that others have given me… Guinea Pig Greg. Because it’s funny, true, and I’m a sucker for alliteration.

What causes are you passionate about?

My fiancée and I volunteer with local animal fosters and adoption centers. Hint hint, how we ended up with seven guinea pigs and six cats. We’re passionate about helping those in need, people AND animals!
